Activities of Reversing Domain Name Hijacking Against Famous Vietnamese Banks

Recently, there are series of country-coded domain name dot VN bearing the names of major banks such as Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam (Vietcombank), Agricultural Bank of Vietnam (Agribank), Vietnam International Bank (VIB), Vietnam Prosperity Bank (VP Bank) which have been putting on sale online at the rate of 79 million VND / 1 domain.

Meanwhile, these banks have already registered with the Vietnam Internet Network Information Center (“VNNIC”) and being the ownerships of the second-level domain names “.com.vn”. According to Article 130.1 of the Intellectual Property Law: "The acts of registration or an attempt at reverse domain name hijacking identical with, or confusingly similar to protected trade names or marks of others or geographical indications without having the right to use, for the purpose of an attempt at reverse domain name hijacking, benefiting from or prejudicing the reputation and popularity of the respective mark shall be deemed to be the acts of unfair competition”.

According to information of the VNNIC, the above domain names dot vn were registered by Micronet Online Communications Company.
