IP Applications in Vietnam increased sharply in 2018.
At the Conference of summing up the work of 2018 and the orientation and tasks of 2019 of the National Office of Intellectual Property (NOIP) held on December 21, 2018, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology (MOST) Pham Cong Tac acknowledged and appreciated the results in 2018 of the National Office of Intellectual Property (NOIP).
According to the NOIP’s Summary Report 2018, as of the end of November 30, 2018, the NOIP has received 98,347 applications of all kinds (up 5.5% compared with the same period in 2017), of which were 57,939 applications for IP rights registration (up 8.2%); the patent applications for invention and utility solution increased by 16.9% and 55.6%, respectively.
However, the NOIP Director Dinh Huu Phi admitted that, beside remarkable results achieved, the NOIP should focus on resolving in a synchronous way the great backlog of IP applications which tends to increase each year as the number of applications processed annually are lower than the number of applications received; the utilization of IT at NOIP for application administration has not met the requirements of a national IP office...
